Please note:
CHAINS
Reasons Why You Want a Quality Aftermarket Chain
Stronger - Aftermarket chains are often stronger than your OEM chain. A stronger chain is less resistant to stretching and therefore lasts longer before you need to adjust / replace your chain. A standard measure of a chain's strength is the tensile strength which is the amount of stress needed before the chain breaks or becomes permanently damaged. |
Lighter - Quality aftermarket chains are lighter than the OEM chains they replace. Since the chain is a rotating mass, any reduction in it's weight improves acceleration / deceleration as well as throttle response. A standard measure of a motorcycle chain's weight is the weight per 100 links. A good chain will have the winning combination of being both strong and light for maximum performance. |
Color Choice - Most EK Chains are available in a large variety of colors including natural, black, gold, chrome, red, blue, green, yellow, purple and orange to fit any color scheme. Most DID chains are only available in Gold. |
Necessary for a Pitch Conversion - A popular way of giving your bike better acceleration is converting to a thinner pitch chain (lighter). Most modern liter bikes come stock with a 530 pitch chain whereas 600cc sportbikes come stock with a 525 or 520 pitch chain. With modern technology it is possible to have a "thin" 520 chain that can still handle the 150+ hp of a modern literbike. |
The Bottom Line on Motorcycle Chains
Chains and Sprockets are one of the most commonly replaced part on a motorcycle. Replacing your stock chain with a quality aftermarket chain allows you to ride for longer intervals between adjustment and replacement. For those who want a bit of color, EK chains are available in natural, chrome, gold, red, blue, green, yellow, purple. A common upgrade is to install a lighter chain (ie. changing from a stock 530 or 525 pitch chain to a 520 pitch) - it decreases weight and improves acceleration slightly. If you change your chain size, be sure to replace your front and rear sprockets or else the new chain won't fit.
