More Crash Protection Options

In addition to your frame sliders, axle sliders and swingarm spools, also consider these other forms of crash protection for your motorcycle!

LighTech barends, often called handle bar end shown here in blue LighTech Bar End Protectors - In addition to frame sliders, clip on bar-ends are a great way to protect your expensive clip-on handlebars. LighTech's handlebar ends are available as universal mounts bar ends (with a well-nut) as well as bike-specific applications for OEM clip-ons.
Engine Cover / Clutch Cover - OPP carbon case covers are a great looking way of protecting your stock covers. Often one of the first points of contact with the ground in an accident, adding an OPP carbon engine cover and carbon clutch cover will prevent the case cover from grinding through and spewing oil all over the road. This keeps your bike ride-able (as long as nothing else is damaged) long enough to get to a mechanic. OPP carbon engine covers and clutch covers are made with 6-8 layers of carbon fiber & carbon kevlar and are virtually bullet proof. Highly recommended with a set of no cut frame sliders!
OPP carbon swing arm protector Frame Protectors and Swingarm Protectors - Installing a set of carbon frame protector and swing arm protector in addition to your frame slidder and swingarm spools are a great way of protecting your expensive stock frame. These covers act as another layer of grinding material should the bike go down and prevent your OEM swing arm and frame from getting scratched up. Also great for covering up scratches if the bike has already gone down.

Commonly Broken / Replaced Parts

Hopefully it doesn't come to this stage, but if the bike has gone down already here are some parts that are commonly broken and needs replacing. Be sure to check over your bike carefully before attempting to ride again!

Motorcycle Fairings - If your bike goes down chances are you'll have some cracked / scratched fairings. Instead of replacing them with the expensive and heavy factory fairings, replace them with a set of OPP carbon motorcycle fairings! In many cases it's actually cheaper to buy carbon fiber fairings than ABS plastics and it gives your bike the custom fairings look.
CRG brake lever and CRG clutch lever Brake and Clutch Levers - Often ground down / broken in a crash, aftermarket brake and clutch levers are designed as direct replacements for your levers. Replacement levers are cosmetic upgrades and do not alter the performance of your brake and clutch systems, for that you should look at a Brembo brake master cylinder.
LighTech Carbon Mirrors - Scratched or broke your motorcycle mirrors? Replacement them with LighTech's gorgeous carbon fiber mirror! These carbon mirrors are made with real carbon fiber, fits virtually all sportbikes, and are even available in Red, Blue, Green and Silver along with carbon to match your bike! You can even color match them to your new anodized swing-arm spools!
LighTech rear set for motorcycles. used extensive as world superbike rear sets Rearsets - Got a broken brake lever or shift lever? You're not alone, rear sets and are one of the most commonly broken components in a crash. Both Gilles Tooling and LighTech adjustable rearsets utilize a ball bearing in their levers yielding much crisper shifting and braking action. Replacing your broken rear set with either Gilles Tooling or LighTech will get you back on the road and give you a much more comfortable ride as well. Also consider the LighTech folding rear set which has pegs that fold instead of break in a crash!
LighTech billet turn signal Aftermarket Turn Signals - If your turn signals got broken in the crash, replace them with a set of aftermarket LED turn signals! Sleek looking and easy to install, these replace those big plastic monstrosity that come stock.
Aftermarket Exhausts - If you haven't noticed a trend already, unfortunately anything that sticks out gets broken in a crash. Replace your broken / scratched canister with an Akrapovic exhaust, Arrow exhaust or Graves exhaust for more horsepower, a great sound and weight reduction.

FAQ on Frame Sliders

  • Q: What are Frame Sliders?
A: Frame Sliders are synthetic pucks that stick out from your motorcycle frame or engine via metal bolts. In the event that your sportbike falls over or slides during a crash, the puck would absorb the damage and minimize the damage to your expensive fairings, frame and other components.
  • Q: Do I have to drill holes through my expensive bodywork?
A: Most frame sliders require you to cut away part of the bodywork to install the parts - however, most newer sportbikes have no cut frame sliders use a bracket to reposition the puck - no cutting required to install the frame slider.
  • Q: Which frame sliders do OPP Racing recommend?
A: Thanks for asking! We recommend the LighTech Frame Sliders because of their history of reliability and refined appearance. As used by World Superbike Teams such as Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra and Winston Ten Kate. LighTech's newer frame slider designs also feature a white rubber cushion layer to help absorb impact. Best of all, most of the LighTech frame sliders are "no cut frame sliders" for quick and easy install!
  • Q: What if I can't find one for my bike?
A: OPP Racing carries motorcycle frame sliders all of the following common applications. If there's something you can't find on this list give us a call and we can find a suitable pair of frame sliders for you.
    • Honda frame sliders
    • Kawasaki frame sliders
    • Suzuki frame sliders
    • Yamaha frame sliders
