About the Product

Product Description

Dzus fasteners are quick release, D-ring fasteners that are designed to allow easy installation and removal of bodywork. These clips are used by MotoGP and are necessary for mounting our bodywork. Dzus fasteners are reusable and should last for the lifetime of your bodywork.

This style of Dzus fastener is a "clip style" and consists of a D-ring key, plastic washer and clip. Clip style has advantages over the stock fasteners and the other rivet-style Dzus fasteners:

• Unlike the stock fasteners, you do not require special tools to install/remove the fasteners.
• Unlike the rivet-style fasteners, they do not tear the bodywork in the event of a crash.

The number of Dzus fasteners needed can be found in the description for each piece of bodywork. As of Sept 2005, refer to the lower for your bike to determine the number of Dzus fasteners required. A typical race kit (upper and lower) requires 6 dzus fasteners but this may vary depending on the bike.

Installation or Technical Notes

You will need a 5/32 drill bit, 17/64 drill bit and 1-2 friends to install the Dzus fasteners.

1. Thread the plastic washer onto the stud of each D-ring key.
2. Attach the clip to the inner lip of the bodywork.
3. Line up the two pieces of bodywork that are to be fastened together. Use your friends to hold the bodywork very firmly in position. Ensure that the bodywork lines up properly! OPP is not responsible for misdrilled bodywork and cannot accept returns/exchanges/refunds for misdrilled bodywork! For more information, see the OPP policies.
4. From the inside part of the bodywork, drill a marker hole using the 5/32 drill bit. By attaching the clip to the bodywork during the drilling process, you can ensure that the hole is perfectly lined up and you can also immediately install the D-ring key. Keep holding the bodywork firmly in position, remember that you are drilling through two pieces of bodywork at the same time!!!
5. From the outside part of the bodywork, drill a second hole using the 17/64 drill bit. Be careful to drill enough to make a clean hole in the bodywork but not to hit the clip on the other side. Go slowly but firmly.
6. From the outside part of the bodywork, take the D-ring key and fasten the bodywork together. The key requires only a quarter turn to lock into position. The fasteners will be a tight fit so you may need to apply a fair amount of pressure to get the key to fit all the way through. Your friends should still be holding the bodywork firmly in position until the D-ring is in place.
7. Repeat the process for each Dzus fastener.
